Robert Sangster Stakes
The Robert Sangster Stakes is a Group 1 Australian Thoroughbred horse race held under set weight conditions, for fillies and mares aged three years old and upwards, over a distance of 1200 metres.
The race is conducted by the South Australian Jockey Club and run at the Morphettville Racecourse in April. Before 2006 it was held in February.
In 2005 the race was re-named the ‘Robert Sangster Stakes’ after prolific owner and breeder Robert Sangster who died in 2004.
Robert Sangster was the principal of Swettenham Stud and the re-naming recognises his contribution to Australian thoroughbred industry.
